it's a good day for sewing purses for the grand girls...

I came across these skirts at the thrift store for only $2.00 ea.! Score!!

Belts were 50 cents each at another thrift store :)

I'm not much into sewing. For many years to me sewing meant any project that took more than 20 minutes was worth paying someone else to do... But this was a project I figure even I can handle. Sewing the belts on was a bit tricky.  My sewing machine and the belt couldn't quite agree on which way to go, but I finally was able to sew them on using a "Z" pattern except for one purse where I opted to leave the belt end on the outside.  The detail was just too cute to tuck inside the skirt.

The marble sack is for my grandson, I cut up an old shirt that was no longer fit for wearing. The projects, needless to say, took less than 20 minutes each ;)

today is a good day for...

Heading to the zoo! One of my D.D.'s best buds spent the night last night.  I fell asleep to the sounds of whispering and giggling. As I'm sitting here typing this and sipping on my gingerbread mocha (coffee with two spoons of gingerbread cocoa mix - - it does a body good ;) ) I can hear sounds of my daughter singing in the shower as her friend sleeps on... It's going to be a great day! First on the agenda is Target, then the zoo, followed by trips to the thrift stores and a furniture store to scope out the headboard for my daughter's room. I wonder where we will stop for lunch??  hmmmm..... Make room elephants, tigers and apes, we're on our way!

cookies.... say the word and sigh :)

Cookies.... I LOVE cookies, I adore cookies.  No cookie is safe left unattended in my presence.... did I mention I like cookies?! I decided today would be a good day to make cookies.  (Yay me!)  I grabbed my keys and headed to the store.  $36.60 later (wow) I head home pull back my hair, wash my hands and got in the "zone".
First on the list:
Chocolate Cherry Cookies :)
2 boxes Chocolate Fudge Cake mix
4 eggs
2/3 cup oil
1 bag chocolate cherry m & m's
8 oz. bag chopped walnuts
1 cup dehydrated cherries
2 cups toasted coconut
cherry flavoring

Mix first three ingredients until well blended, add remaining ingredients, bake at 350 degrees 13 min.

That was so good, I thought... "Why stop there!"

Triple Chocolate Chip/Oatmeal/Walnut/Coconut Cookies!
Did I mention... I like cookies?

crafting is in the air...

My oh-so-adorable daughter wants to change her room.  She's into all things Italian these days and her previous room is "so last year".  No, she didn't really say that, but thought I'd throw that in ;)  I thought "What says an Italian computer stand more than a bistro table?"  Someone had given me a lawn table. ("Thanks D.B.!") ... Wish I remembered to take a pic before I sprayed it from hunter green to black.

After grabbing a few necessary supplies I told my daughter "Let's get to work!" I believe she thought I'd lost my mind.... "Vision! you must have vision! Trust me!" I say  LOL"
I asked her to tape two pieces of poster board together, then cut out a round, the same size as the table top.  She then tore grocery bags into small-ish size pieces, leaving the edges rough.  Next she crinkled up the pieces of paper, smoothed them back out, and attached them to the poster board using white craft glue. (Aren't her hands lovely?)

After letting it dry a few hours it was time to add some stain, and then finally polyurethane.

Finito! Ti amo mia cara figlia!

let's hear it for corn fritters!

This past week was my sons 24th birthday.  When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday meal he replied "corn fritters".  He didn't even want cake, his only request was for home made corn fritters.  To keep the grand kids happy we did have spice cake with cream cheese frosting (made by my awesome daughter) and to keep the meat eaters in the house happy we served the fritters up with bratwurst, grilled peppers and onions, and some carrot/raisin/pineapple salad.   I'm eating some fritters now warmed up with a bit of my all time fav.  salad dressing, chipotle lime ranch..... and might I say, in all humility... YUM!!  ( All I did was throw the ingredients together.  God made the flavors!) I thought to take a pic when I was down to my last two bites....

for anyone who might want to try it, here is the recipe!

1 can creamed corn
1 can whole corn, drained
2 green onions, chopped
2 eggs
1 sleeve of Ritz crackers, crushed

Store brand crackers work just as well, I bought mine from Walmart!  This is a cinch to whip up.  This time my 6 year old grand daughter helped me.

Crumble the crackers in a large bowl, we aren't making breadcrumbs here, so it doesn't need to be fine crumbs, just break them up into small pieces.  Add the remaining ingredients and combine until wet throughout.  You should have a thick batter.  Cook them in a greased skillet on med. heat.  flip when golden brown.  If by some chance they fall apart, just put them back into the bowl, mix it in and keep on going!

today is a good day for...

drinking a cup of mocha, slipping someone a few bucks and sending them to lunch with a friend, passing out cookies to the grand kids, eating more of them myself than i should, wearing clothes that don't match simply because they are the most comfortable and I'm not leaving the house anyway, playing "let's make pizza" with two little smiling grand daughters, eating some more cookies and finishing the package, typing off emails to friends, visiting with my son, listening to music.... some of the really good things in life :)

Happy Worshiping!

This is the Day the Lord hath made, God is Great!
The Lord is GOOD a STRONGHOLD in the day of trouble and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Nahum 1:7

Today, thanks to the Lord's providence, I will be able to attend church. My car is running!
'starting the morning off with a cup of hot coffee w/ 2 spoons of gingerbread cocoa mix for creamer, sitting in front of a crackling fire with my husband. Then it's off to church to "make a joyful noise" and worship! Looking forward to the fellowship of the believers!

This is my view of my husband all day today.... Isn't he cute? I think he's absolutely amazing.  Thank you honey for giving up your Saturday so I can have wheels!!
Love ya!! :x lovestruck

Yesterday I lived the ultimate American woman's dream.  I was stranded at Walmart with a debit card in my pocket LOL.  My car broke down..... the starter..... the same part my hubby put in just about a month ago. :(
sad   I'm on my way out the door to keep him company while he does a repeat.  We had it towed home today.....
 ~Update:
Praise God, have car will travel! Hubby was able to get the car rolling again after a trip to the auto part store and a few hours underneath the car.  The part was still under warranty.  We came home with a new one and an apology from the helpful man behind the counter at Autozone. On my way back to Walmart to get some more art supplies!  Woo Hoo!!
a funny quote for no particular reason:
"I know a lot about cars, man. I can look at any car's headlights and tell you exactly which way it's coming."  Mitch Hedberg
